The wait is over, our 1st XI (home) and 2nd XI (away) begin their league campaigns this Saturday. Our 3rd and 4th XI will then get their seasons underway on Saturday 9th May, and we look forward to seeing strength across all sides as the summer progresses.
It’s been fantastic to see the commitment from the squad over the winter. Winter nets were very well attended, and that momentum has carried into the outdoor season. Tuesday night adult training at the Hospital Ground has regularly seen around 30 players, with sessions that have been structured, enjoyable and full of energy, reflected in the excellent feedback we’ve received.
A huge thank you must go to everyone involved in organising these sessions, with a special mention to our newly appointed Head of Cricket, John Marshall (Geordie). His leadership has brought real structure, focus and a clear standard to the playing section, which is already evident in the attitude and effort across the group.
Junior Cricket
Our junior section, led by Elliot Slinn (Head of Junior Cricket), continues to go from strength to strength. Elliot, alongside his team of coaches, has done a fantastic job organising the section and introducing the “One Club, One Standard” ethos, which is in its infancy but already having a positive impact across all age groups.
The U11s, U13s and U15s begin their league fixtures in May, with plenty of excitement and expectation around the group. We wish all our junior players the very best for the season ahead and look forward to seeing their continued development.
Women & Girls Cricket
Our women’s softball section begins their season tomorrow evening (Thursday) at the County Ground, home of Northants Cricket, as they take part in their first ever festival. Incredibly, we’ve entered two teams (and could easily have fielded three!), a fantastic effort by everyone involved. The festival runs from 6pm to 7:30pm, and it would be great to see some support there.
A massive shout out to Carrie Burrows, Head of Women and Girls Cricket, for driving this forward. This section is growing rapidly and is great fun to be part of...watch this space!
We also want to recognise the tireless work of our groundstaff over the past few months to get the outfield and square to such a quality standard. Their dedication at both the Hospital Ground and Playing Fields has ensured we can enjoy cricket in such fantastic surroundings, something we’re very proud of as a club.
Just as importantly, we’d like to thank all of our sponsors and volunteers for their continued generosity and support. Quite simply, without them, none of this would be possible.
We’d love to see plenty of you down at the Hospital Ground this Saturday, and throughout the season at both grounds, supporting the teams. Your support from the boundary makes a huge difference.
Let’s all get behind our teams and wish our men’s, women’s and junior sides a fantastic start to the season for the whole club.
