A huge amount of work has gone on behind the scenes to get the project to this stage, including finalising the design, scope of works, programme, quotations and all of the supporting information required for the funding application.

The new system will include a large water storage tank, pump system, underground moled pipework, sprinkler heads around the square and a separate hand-watering point, providing us with a significant improvement to the way we maintain and prepare the square and massively reduce volunteer hours!

As part of the project, we will also be incorporating rainwater harvesting wherever practically possible, allowing us to capture and reuse rainwater to help replenish the storage tank. While mains water will still be required, particularly during prolonged dry periods, maximising the use of collected rainwater will help us reduce mains water consumption and make the system as sustainable and environmentally responsible as possible.

Even better, we won’t have to wait long to get started. Work is scheduled to commence on Monday 21st September, immediately after the cricket season finishes, allowing us to complete the installation during the close season and have the system ready for the 2027 season and upcoming square end of season renovation works.

This is a significant investment in the Hospital Ground and another important step in improving our facilities and ensuring they can support the continued growth of the club.

When we originally submitted the application, we said we had to keep our fingers crossed as clubs across the country would be competing for the funding, so to have been successful is fantastic news for us
